Wednesday afternoon, Judi and I will be leaving with our friends for India. The two of us will eventually head north toward (but not to) the source of the Ganges river. Follow our travels on my other blog at http://luskwater.blogspot.com/ (I'm taking a laptop, and hope to be able to post now and then).

Library of Congress and Flickr

Amazon Daily
The Library of Congress, the U.S. national library, is teaming up with the popular photo-sharing site Flickr to put up a few thousand photos on their newly-created Flickr account.

This might seem underwhelming at first — what, they're too cheap to get their own Web site? — but it's actually pretty cool. Flickr does a great job at handling metadata -- a wide variety of descriptors about an image. While much of it, such as the date taken and GPS data, can only be added by the page's maintainer, anyone can add notes or tags that describe or react to the image. Since many of these were added to a massive library with minimal comment, that can be a great tool for fleshing out history.
